Baked beans

It's been really cold here in the world for the last few weeks, and looks to continue. I like to get something baking in the oven that takes a while and smells good. In my drafty old house, it helps raise the temperature to a blood-thawing level, which is nice. These beans are delicious.

Soak a generous 2 cups of great northern beans overnight, then cook them in 8 cups of water for about an hour, just until tender (don't let them go mushy). Drain, reserving the liquid. Add 1/2 c. molasses, 1/4 c. brown sugar, and some ketchup if you like it (I have homemade ketchup that I think isn't as sweet as commercial stuff, so you might want to reduce the sugar a little if you don't make your own ketchup. And who in their right mind would.), 1 tsp. dried english mustard, 1 chopped onion, and a tsp. of salt. Mix it around and bake in a 300 degree oven for a couple of hours or more. Add more liquid if it seems to be drying out.
