Each term, the Information Systems and Technology (IST) and Human Resources (HR) departments offer a variety of seminars to help faculty, staff, and students become more proficient with computer resources, software and technology available on campus.

Additional sources for obtaining "training" in various computer skills and programs may be obtained by:
- Using the online help in the program, usually labled as "Help" in the program's menu bar.
- Visiting the software company's user support area of their website for the particular program. The site can be found by using a search engine like Google or Yahoo! and searching for the company name or software title.
- Buying/borrowing a book about the software program. The library offers access to on-line technical books from any computer on campus (including personal computers in residence) via http://proquest.safaribooksonline.com/. Off campus users will need to sign in with their WatIAM userid and password.
- Taking a computing course at UW, such as CS100, CS112, or CS200.
- Contacting our Help Desk.
The following are some websites that might be useful in acquiring computer usage proficiency:
- Free on-line courses. This site lets you learn various features of various software programs, as well as general information about your personal computer, HTML, etc.
- Microsoft Excel 2002 tutorials. Lets the user explore various features of Microsoft Excel to simplify organization and data research by using worksheets and charts. Common uses of Excel are: collecting, analyzing and formatting data; using formulas and functions for quick calculations; creating dynamic charts and graphs from worksheet data.
- HTML: An Interactive Tutorial for Beginners. A "hands-on" tutorial that allows the user to learn HTML, a markup language used to write websites and webpages. Upon completion of this tutorial, the user will possess the skills needed to create their own website.
- Microsoft Office 2000 tutorials. A site that provides links to an assortment of online computer tutorials for the Microsoft Office 2000 software package, including tutorials for MS Access and MS Frontpage.
