This page is intended for Arts students.
Intent of this page: to help arts students find and use common spaces in arts buildings, and to make their experiences in these buildings better.
***computer labs may be used for personal study/work***
(even if you're not using a computer, as long as people aren't waiting for access to computers)

PAS 1080 is one of the Arts Computing Office (ACO) labs on campus. It is a great place for students to go in between classes. Not only does the lab have 6 Nexus computers with much of the specialty software many arts students use, but each computer also has a set of headphones as well.

In addition, the working spaces are big enough for a laptop as well as the computer that is already there. Each desk, in fact, has an Ethernet port and two electrical outlets to accommodate a laptop and a desk lamp to make reading your textbook even easier. Also, this lab is close to the PAS printing room and the ACO Help Desk (in case you encounter any computer troubles). Finally, should you need to put your feet up after a long class there is also a comfy couch and chair in this lab as well. |
|
PAS 1098 is very similar to PAS 1080 except it is bigger. It offers many of the same benefits as the PAS 1080 lab. Instead of 6 Nexus computers, this lab has 17, with the same specialty software. The desks are quite spacious, large enough to fit a laptop or other work you may be doing, and have an Ethernet port, two electrical outlets for laptops and a set of headphones. In addition, there are also two big empty desks that can be used to do work at as well. Finally, just like PAS 1080, this lab is close to the printing room as well as the ACO Help Desk. |
Hanging around the central stairs is a great way to spend a few minutes in between your classes. Not only is it in the centre of the PAS building, but it is close to vending machines, should you need to re-energize in between your classes.
|
This area is also fairly quiet unless there is a transition between classes. Also, you never have to worry about finding a seat since all around the stairs are comfy benches that you can sit down on and take a load off. Finally, should you encounter any computer problems, the ACO help desk is nearby to offer assistance. Unfortunately there are no electrical outlets or Ethernet ports nearby so make sure your laptop has enough battery life and your wireless is on. |
|
After sitting indoors for three hours during one of those marathon classes, sometimes it is nice just to get outside, especially if you have to do it all over again soon. The deck beside PAS 3080, the psych society, may be the answer to your problems. Not only is it near the psych society, which offers tasty treats for pretty cheap prices, it is outside and offers a number of picnic benches for you to sit down on. Should it be a particularly sunny day, each picnic bench has an umbrella you can put up. As with the central stairs, there are no electrical outlets or Ethernet ports nearby so you will be relying on your laptop’s battery. |
The PAS lounge is perhaps the best place in PAS to go put your feet up for a few minutes after a hard day of classes or in between classes.

Not only are there comfy couches and chairs to sit down on, but there is also an eating area should you need to sit down and eat a meal as well. Forgot your lunch? There is a great coffee shop in the lounge that offers food at reasonable prices. Hours vary for the coffee shop. See https://info.uwaterloo.ca/infofs/locations/#pas for details. Take note, though, that there are no Ethernet ports in the lounge so you will be required to rely on wireless; also, there are only a few electrical outlets in the lounge so don’t count on being able to plug in your laptop, in case the lounge is busy. |

This is another ACO lab on campus. Its size falls in between the sizes of PAS 1080 and PAS 1098. This is a great place to check your email, etc. if you need to spend a few minutes before a class in HH or are waiting to speak to a faculty or staff member. Since it is fairly tucked away from everything else, this is usually a pretty quiet lab. Also, there are 13 Nexus computers with lots of specialty software installed on them as well. Should you need to quickly print off an assignment before class, there is a printer within this lab. There is even a blackboard to work on in this lab as well. |
|
If you have a few minutes to spend between classes or are waiting for an Accounting faculty member, this is a great place to stop and relax or read. While there are no spots to plug in your laptop and no Ethernet ports, there is a great seating area with a great view to look out at, as you relax for a few minutes. |
|
This is a student lounge for Accounting and Finance students that can be found in the School of Accounting. Here you can take a load off by sitting in one of the many comfy chairs, study at one of the many study desks with built-in electrical outlets for a laptop, converse with a group in one of the three study rooms, or study quietly in the quiet room. Regardless of where you are, you will always be able to find a plug for your laptop and generally have a pretty quiet atmosphere to work or just relax. |
Throughout HH you can find a number of reading rooms. While some are for the students of that particular department, many are open to all arts students.
In these rooms, you can find departmental specific books, comfy chairs for reading and sometimes even a computer to work on. Generally these rooms do not have a lot of electrical outlets to plug in your laptop and sometimes they have only one or two Ethernet ports, but they do always have desks and chairs to work at.
These rooms are great if you need a quiet place to study in between classes or want a comfy place to read.

While Arts Lecture Hall (AL) is one of the smallest ARTS buildings, it may have one of the biggest places to take a break in between your classes or relax after a long day of classes.
Situated in the lobby are a number of vending machines and even the Arts Student Union should you need to replenish your energy (with drinks and snacks) after a long three hour class. There are also a number comfy couches and chairs to take a load off.
While there are a limited number of electrical outlets for laptops and you need to rely on wireless for connectivity, there are also fourteen (thin client) computers around the lobby as well. These computers, however, have limited software installed and are designed to be used for browsing the Internet or checking your email between classes.

The coffee shop is a great place to grab a bite in between classes. Full meals are offered there should you not have a chance to get home to make yourself a meal or you need a snack in between classes. There is also a great seating area. Hours vary and are posted here: https://info.uwaterloo.ca/infofs/locations/#ml

This is the lounge for all Independent Studies (IS) students as well as the IS Student Union. In this lounge you will find comfy chairs as well as some electrical outlets for your laptop.
There is also a sink and microwave in this lounge.

In addition, there are also two Macintosh computers that students can use. Should you need a quiet place to study, this room is always generally quiet and will more than accommodate your studying needs.
